felt at branch

Felted pebbles from Branch, handmade in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of a job creation program that offers opportunities to local craftswomen.

These eggflats by Josh Jakus would be great as a valet for watch, keys, etc, or even as a jewelry tray.

n.v.

Blogged by design*sponge and remodelista, these photos of actress Julianne Moore's house in the West Village make me green with you-know-what. Remodelista posted a "steal this look" guide, but I think the best way to get a similar "look" is several million $ and a good downtown realtor.

freud of london

Last summer I bought this small alphabet cappuccino cup for my dad at Freud in Soho (London). It's just the right size. If you're in the area it's definitely worth stopping in to see their elegant ceramics, glassware, and old fashioned electric fans.

Black retro coffee cup (really more like espresso cup — it's tiny)

Maybe if you put your money in it, the sustainability rubs off on your income. Cork and woodgrain fabric wallet from Cog & Pearl, Brooklyn.

Tracy Tanner cork wallet made with non-toxic glue from the MoMA store.

marine images

I've admired the light fixtures from jef designs in the past and these silkscreened panels are no less beautiful.

chocolate hazelnut marzipan

WHAT?!?! Those are the magic words: CHOCOLATE, HAZELNUT, MARZIPAN.

I just died and went to heaven.

ikat-like prints

This great new dress from Anthro reminds me of one of the posts on design*sponge yesterday about John Robshaw:

It also reminds me that there was a feature in Elle Decor on Robshaw's fabrics around early spring that I liked so much that I kept the clipping:

shiny squirrel

I just discovered Shiny Squirrel, and I think it's just great. Here is some of their 'what's new':

There is some great new home stuff from Anthro on their website:
Fresco pillow, pebbled glasses, Teekamer pitcher, Mina tablecloth, Mandarin Canape Plates, Fynbos canape plate, Voluspa Japonica Oil Diffuser.

Eyelet silk dress, corduroy shirtdress, sun & earth dress

montage 3_2.jpg

Gypsy life bag, wildflower canvas satchel, caspian shoulder bag.

Anthro's stuff always looks so great on their website, even more fantastic in their catalog, and in their store... well, I always want to cry when I go in there.

happy halloween

So cute I almost don't want to eat these marzipan halloween figures on sale for half price at Dean & DeLuca.

'Curious Chili' chocolate ganache skull from D.L. & Co., purveyor of gorgeous gothic-baroque-victorian-art nouveau goods, edible and not. Their website is really beautiful too.

Dean & Deluca has teamed up with D.L. & Co. to exclusively carry a boxed set of three chocolate ganache skulls and these:

Skull placeholder

The candle is a good deal at half price ($45). Most of D.L. & Co.'s candles run $100 or more.

These skull plates are on the refined end of the spectrum of the hipster-80s-punk skull trend over the past year or so.

brrrr...

It's getting cold (and dark!) out, and it's time to think about mittens, hot chocolate, and jacking up the heat (kidding).

Wool and cashmere from J. Crew.

Aztec hot chocolate bar from MarieBelle.

If you're like me you live in a pre-war apartment with ancient, noisy radiators and no control over when the heats turns on or off; windows are my thermostat. But whether you control your heat or not, it's worth reading Low Impact Living's article with suggestions for saving energy this winter. You can also contact your local utility company to see if they offer a green power option.
