My shoe-obsessed co-worker told me about Chausser, a small Japanese company that I was able to check out while in Tokyo. Their shoes are incredibly well-made and beautiful, albeit pricey. Unfortunately, they are hard to find in the U.S. Only men's shoes are sold here.

petite maoiste, i think they cost around $350. i ended up splurging on different pair in the tokyo store.
